At a construction cost exceeding $200 million, Tutor Perini Corporation improved the longest runway in the U.S. at one of the country’s busiest airports. The project includes removing and resurfacing 2-1/2 miles of main runway, installing new lighting & navigation aids, adding and reconfiguring taxiways, and providing all drainage, electrical, and other infrastructure work as needed for a complete project. The schedule meticulously incorporated more than twenty individual “stages” spread over more than thirty major areas. Operations required extremely precise coordination among construction forces, security, FAA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on a continuous basis.
